San Sebastian | City Break | My Swft City

San Sebastián

Although lesser known than the rest of the My Swft City offering, San Sebastián really does have something for everyone. It’s worth visiting Spain’s answer to Monte Carlo for the food alone but that’s not where things end. The little surfer’s city has three beaches, alluring art nouveau architecture, plenty of history and incredible views in all directions.

In the Old Town (Parte Vieja) you’ll find a buzzy nightlife and bars selling the best pintxos (the region’s unique, mini tapas-like snacks); in the city centre The Cathedral of the Good Shepherd is worth a visit; and Gros (named after a portly French general), by Zurriola beach, has a chilled-out, surfer vibe. San Sebastián is a city filled with people that love to indulge - constantly topping lists of the world’s best places to eat - thanks to a staggering 16 Michelin stars (restaurants Arzak, Akelaŕe and Martín Berasategui have three stars each) and the city’s famous pintxos culture, which is probably the best in the world.

The huge Playa de la Concha is one of Europe’s most famous beaches, plus it’s so much quieter than any of Barcelona’s sandy spots; Playa de Gros is less touristy and a great spot for views of the local surfers; while Playa de Ondarreta (in the district known as the Millionaires’ Belt) is great for people watching.
Our pick of the best things to do features hanging out in the pintxos bars in the Old Town, visiting the Comb of the Wind sculptures, exploring Museo de San Telmo for the best of Basque art and riding the funicular railway to the top of Monte Igueldo, for sweeping views of the city, mountains and coastline.
